The internet has made lives for everyone very easy. One may do just about anything on the internet, from conducting business to finding marriage partners. Of late, forums and weblogs have become very popular. Though the chat room has been around for a very long time, recently Muslim chat rooms have become very common among the Muslims online. There are thousands of such chat rooms, where all Muslims may get together to speak to one another. However, a lot of debate has been created about this topic, and people want to know if it is halal or not.

A lot of Muslim groups have criticized this form of communication, saying that Shaitan is out to get everyone through this evil method. A lot of Muslim youngsters are supposedly using these Muslim chat rooms to discuss a lot of taboo topics. This obviously means that the Muslim families are not aware of what their children are doing. These activities are not supposed to be allowed in a Muslim household. It is indeed haram, if they indulge in topics and attempt to do things that are against the Quran. Though some of them maintain their dignity, other young Muslims fail to do that.

It is also unfair to point out that only negative things happen on such websites. A lot of Muslims across the world use these chat rooms, and it is a great way of uniting Muslim societies. For example, Muslim students can form a chat room and be part of it to discuss various subjects about their universities etc. They can also exchange views about their universities, hold religious topics or talk about whatever they please. Only Muslims are allowed to use these chat rooms, because they are a very staunch religious society, and do not like others speaking ill of their religion.

There have been shocking revelations that some terrorist groups used these methods to pass information during critical periods, especially at the time of some operations. The Muslim community is against terrorism, and using chat rooms may be a way of spreading the good word of Islam. The sites can also invite people who are interested in the religion and who want to convert to Islam. This way, there can be a lot of people online at the same time, and questions and answers can be given to and from within this online Muslim community. A healthy debate will also be encouraged among the members.

Some people have also criticized the fact that chat room administrators do not ban people from the room, if they talk ill about Islam. There will also be people who speak about the divisions in Islam. Administrators have claimed that all users have the right to have an opinion of their own. Such speakers however will not be entertained in these chat rooms. Anyway, Muslim chat rooms are in fact a great opportunity to meet good Muslims, provided it’s used in the right way.
